Red Rock Canyon is a national conservation area in the Mojave Desert, West of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Red Rock Canyon has millions of years of geological history and a dramatic landscape characteristic to that area. Red Rock provides a wide variety of activities: hiking, rock climbing, camping, biking, and horseback riding. Automobiles are allowed through the 13-mile scenic drive.

Popular rock climbing areas include the Calico Hills 1 and 2 and Sandstone Quarry. The main trail can be a little hard to follow because of the occasionally hikes up and down the red rocks. However, there is no reason to worry about losing the trail since the perspective from the top will allow the view of most of it. After the seasonal rains, the ponds fill with water and the landscape with the red colored rocks in the background is beautiful.

The entry in Red Rock Canyon is 18 miles West of Las Vegas Blvd., on Charleston Ave (SR 159).

There are several ways to hike around the Calico Hills. The trail can be accessed from both Calico Hills parking areas. If you prefer to hike it from visitor’s center, there is approximate 4 mile distance round trip.

There is no water along the trail like in most of the Red Rock Canyon area.
